Saint-Gobain has its float glass plant at Sriperumpudur, about 50 km west of Chennai on the national highway to Bangalore. For Saint-Gobain Glass India, the recession time has provided a breather to improve and innovate a whole lot of processes and practices, which it would have found difficult to do if the market were going ahead full steam, says Mr. Mr. B. Santhanam, Managing Director, Saint-Gobain Glass India. Along with the company-specific initiatives, Saint-Gobain has been working on industry-wide initiatives including green buildings, energy code for buildings & improvement of energy efficiency.

Saint-Gobain Glass India has been recognized along with eight other companies for its initiative in Corporate Social Responsibility by the Tamil Nadu Government, recently.

Today, about 450 people of UDS work round the clock in the Saint-Gobain Glass Plant, Sriperumpudur, providing support services in their production, warehouse and dispatch activities. As a strategic measure to inspire success and growth through conscious action, we have initiated and conducted a two-day Visionary Leadership Programme for the aspiring Leaders of UDS, recently in our Corporate Office, Chennai. The purpose of the programme was to KEEP THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING. Once the purpose was explained, the lively and animated interactive sessions that followed set the theme and tone of the Leadership Programme.

We believed in the Vision Statement as internalized ‘Words and phrases’ based on good foundation of values and set the tone for further communication down the line. The very fact that ERP SAP was successfully implemented in all core modules across the country as far back as March 2008 is proof enough that the top management of UDS has consciously adopted technology for achievement of competitive success.

 The whole idea of this Visionary Leadership Programme is to put the leadership in place and set the pace in the market by pursuing a process driven innovative approach, blending people with technology.

UDS enters into Sports & Entertainment Segment; takes care of the upkeep of Cricket Stadiums for Champions League Twenty20 Tournament

On October 23, the 16^th day of the tournament, the finale of the cricket carnival, Champions League Tournament Twenty20, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad witnessed a spectacular game, capturing the world’s imagination. In true reflection of Australian grit, New South Wales, who should have counted themselves out at the end of the first half, raised their game several notches to bowl out favourites Trinidad and Tobago for 118 and take the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 title.

In the words of the Organizers, Champions League Twenty20 is a brand new competition that promises to catapult domestic clubs from various nations to the stratospheric heights of international success.

UDS prides itself with the association of this grand gala event through upkeep & maintenance of all the three stadiums of Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore including the VIP lounges. The tournament consisting of 23 matches was played across a span of 16 action-packed days from 8^th until 23^rd October 2009. 

This goes to reaffirm that UDS has become synonymous with facility management services – be it an integrated facility management at huge IT Park or upkeep of a paint shop in an automobile company or disposal of cullets in a glass factory or maintenance of a domestic upscale residential apartment or prestigious sports grounds such as the above only ending with infinite possibilities of facility management solutions.

Ford India was recently felicitated by the Red Cross Society of Tamil Nadu with the prestigious rolling-shield trophy of "Highest Voluntary Blood Donor in the Industrial Segment in 2008” at a recent ceremony held in Chennai.  UDS has been associating with Ford Business Services since November 2005. This facility division, a 100% subsidiary unit of Ford Motor Company, based in Dearborn, Michigan, supports for financial solutions (accounting, finance, Operations & Engineering related IT enabled services) for Ford worldwide. 

UDS offers services at both the sites, RMZ Millenia Phase I & II and Chennai One Technology Park, Chennai. Recently, we have also started our operations at Ford Business Services, KCT Technology Park, Coimbatore.

About 215 members of Team UDS work at all the 3 sites, round the clock making our service delivery a delightful experience. Our Integrated Facility Services encompass areas such as Operations & Maintenance, Environment Management, Electrical Distribution Management and Housekeeping. The periodical MIS reporting, the in-house managed 24 X 7 Help Desk and the documentation process system practiced at the RMZ, Chennai conform to world class standards with the practices continually improving & getting re-defined.

The first Joint Meet of the Institute Management Committee Chair persons and the Principals of Government ITIs was held on 7^th October 2009 at Madurai under the leadership of the Regional Joint Director (Training), Madurai, Mr. Kadirvelu.  Experiences and best practices were shared by the Chair Persons who have already started and got into the process of administration of these Government ITIs. 

The Institute is spread across in an area measuring 2.61 acres of land. There are about 160 students currently enrolled in different trades. The available trades are Fitter, Wireman and Welder. 

Within the first year of our adoption, we would also be keen to add a minimum of 3 more trades, keeping in view the employment potential. We have set ourselves a vision to convert this rural ITI as a model institute being worthy of emulation by the rest of the ITIs in India.
